James S. from Oxford comments:
The plight of the Turkish Cypriot community is the direct result of Turkey’s occupation of Cyprus, which keeps the country, its people, its institutions and its economy forcibly divided. It is also the result of misguided policies by Turkish Cypriot leaders who have consistently promoted Turkey’s interests at the expense of their own community and of Cyprus as a whole.
Under Turkish rule, the T/Cs have endured isolation, economic ruin, cultural eradication and mass emigration. Even the most fanatical Greek nationalist couldn't have inflicted such a disaster on the Turkish Cypriots.
Only the genuine reunification of Cyprus that provides for the reintegration of its people and economy can improve the situation of the Turkish Cypriots, allow them to realize their full potential and share the benefits of EU membership.

Val comments:
It is time that the TC openly acknowledge what they have known for a long time that the shock of 1974 has led to a new way of thinking amongst the GC. The dream or shall I say the nightmare of enosis is long dead and that the EOKA struggle was a misguided and ill thought out adventure.
Since those dreadful times the GC have learnt to love the Republic of Cyprus and earnestly desire that the TC can put the ugly experiences of the past behind them, develop a new trust with the GC and together in a great partnership share the governing of our great island.TC do not have to become an extinct people nor do the GC need to live with the insecurity of having a powerful hostile neighbour who always seems to be on the verge of another attack.
The comments of the demostrators indicate that TC are ready for partnership with the GC and the duty of the GC is to do everything possible to reassure our TC brothers that a new page has been turned and a new chapter of cooperation awaits to begin.
