By Caroline S. Charalambides | ATTENTION - Let's put Cyprus on the world map regarding the continued
occupation of our country by Turkey, not just the banking crisis | Cyprus recently has featured on the world map because of our financial crisis. For many (particulary non European countries) the name Cyprus merely rang some vague distant bell and difficulties in located it on the world map ensued.Since our banking crisis many articles have appeared that convey just how ignorant some of the word is over the situation in Cyprus vis-à-vis the Cyprus problem or more accurately Cyprus’s Turkey problem.
For a long time now, I have been saying there is an URGENT need for the government to create a "type of ambassador" whose role will be to go forth and ensure that the rest of the world DOES know accurately the situation in Cyprus.
Namely the illegal status of the occupied north, the fact that tC's walked out of government in 1963 because Makarios PROPOSED not IMPLEMENTED changes to the 1960 constitution, which was {the constitution] unworkable and biased.
The Turkish invasion of 1974, the continuance of in excess of 40,000 troops in our country; the importation of thousands of settlers to the north from Turkey in order to attempt to change the population balance. The violent changes made to the demographics of Cyprus and the plundering and destruction of our culture and heritage.
That Turkey continues to ignore UN sanctions and resolutions against their illegal invasion & occupation. That much of the ethnic disturbances between gC's [Greek Cypriots] & tC's [Turkish Cypriots] was artificially created, before independence by the British and after independence by tC leaders & Turkey (in order to create an atmosphere to justify invasion).
That Cyprus has always been predominately GREEK by population EVEN during the period of Ottoman rule.
The devious and malevolent role UK has played in Cyprus both before and after the invasion aided by US & Turkey .....…

Turkey's Kurds & Cyprus' tCypriots
As either unitary state or federation solutions are discussed as replacements to Cyprus' 1960 and Turkey's 1923 unworkable constitutions, should we abide by "if a right is a right too many for Turkey's Kurdish community (circa 23% of population) then that right is a right too many for Cyprus' tCypriot community too (circa 15%), and vice versa." Is the adoption of this fair logic the catalyst to securing just solutions for both UN countries.
