Are You Mad Yet?

Turks insist on a bilingual Cyprus for the sake of 75.000 Turkish Cypriots, yet they refuse 20 million Kurds to learn their language.

Turks insist on all citizens of "Turkey" to learn Turkish, necessary to maintain the country's unity they say, yet they object to the Turkish Cypriots learning Greek.

Turks insist on artificial geographic separation along ethnic lines in Cyprus, yet they adamantly object to it in "Turkey" where geographic and ethnic separation is a historical fact.

Turks insist on political equality between an ethnic minority, now less than 12% of total legal population, and the Greek Christian majority in Cyprus, where they also find it normal for the minority to have the power of veto on almost all central government affairs, yet they find it inconceivable even to debate the same kind of political equality inside "Turkey" as part of the solution to Kurds' "Turkey" problem.

Turks insist that the Turkish Cypriot minority should have 1.7 times its population guaranteed representation in public service & 2.2 times in the army and security forces, yet they refuse to even officially count the Kurds inside "Turkey", let alone speak about their guranateed representation in all levels of government. Alternatively they speak for a federation solution, based on the apartheid logic of 1960 of course, yet they refuse to contemplate it for Turkey-North Kurdistan where the geographical / ethnic separation is a product of history as opposed to the result of a heinous late 20th century crime.

Turks see it as their duty to meddle in just about everyone's affairs, in Cyprus blatantly violating the island's historic, cultural and demographic integrity, yet in their "home", even after 40.000 deaths in the last 30 years alone, they insist they must deal with Kurds' "Turkey" problem "within the family" (some family!).

Turks want a separate parliament for the Turkish Cypriots, a less than 12% of Cyprus's legal population minority without any legal or historic claim on a contiguous piece of land, yet they refuse Kurds, a 20+ million strong community mostly living in north Kurdistan millennia before Turks first showed up, the most basic of political rights, insisting they remain a minority whose wishes can be "democratically" crushed by the majority ethnic Turkish will.

Turks insist on segregation based on race in Cyprus, yet they want to hear none of it inside "Turkey".

Are you mad yet?

Brits planted the seeds of racial segragation and apartheid in the consitution that was forced upon Cypriots in 1960 and to this day play a Caiaphas on us, with the Europeans and Americans in supporting roles as Antipas and Pontius Pilates respectively.

Are you royally mad yet?

Turkey's Kurds & Cyprus' tCypriots

As either unitary state or federation solutions are discussed as replacements to Cyprus' 1960 and Turkey's 1923 unworkable constitutions, should we abide by "if a right is a right too many for Turkey's Kurdish community (circa 23% of population) then that right is a right too many for Cyprus' tCypriot community too (circa 15%), and vice versa." Is the adoption of this fair logic the catalyst to securing just solutions for both UN countries.
