How totally absurd!
Capitalizing 'North' I'm afraid is not enough to make a state! Ed may be young but he is not stupid. He knows that over 90% of now illegally occupied northern Cyprus belongs to its legal citizens, all Greek Cypriots, forcefully thrown out of their homes and towns & kept away for almost 40 years. These Greek Cypriots hold title deeds given from the very land registry created by the former British empire!
I thought a down-to-earth argument that pertains to land would be more appropriate for you as I am sure the argument that illegally occupied northern Cyprus is colonized by 300.000 illegal settlers (rendering Turkish Cypriots a minority again!) against the 4th Geneva Convention is probably not sufficient for the esteemed authors of this preposterous proposal.I think labour should labour some more to understand the issues, as opposed to entertain hedious proposals that are a disgrace to the land of the Magna Carta! I am honored to be the one to remind you of one of its three clauses still on statute:
"Clause 29 (clause 39 in the 1215 charter), a right to due process
NO Freeman shall be taken or imprisoned, or be disseised of his Freehold, or Liberties, or free Customs, or be outlawed, or exiled, or any other wise destroyed; nor will We not pass upon him, nor condemn him, but by lawful judgment of his Peers, or by the Law of the land. We will sell to no man, we will not deny or defer to any man either Justice or Right.[45]"
90% of northern Cyprus's legal population is in exile & deprived of their freehold and liberty because of Britain!
By the law of the Cyprus land, the law her majesty your queen left behind in 1960, the same law that grants the UK certain rights and responsibilities towards the REPUBLIC OF CYPRUS, requires of the UK to see that Turkey's ILLEGAL division, ethnic cleansing, occupation and colonization be lifted and reversed! With no preconditions.
It's inconceivable, to me at least, that your society does not respect the most valuable gift perhaps you gave the world. This cannot be.
We are an ancient people with uninterrupted documented historical presence spanning over 3 millennia. We risk losing our land's identity through a violent demographic and cultural rape of the occupied north of the island. And the UK is sitting idly by based on some ill conceptions. How can you allow this & even promote such rubbish against the very principles your nation was built upon?
Cyprus is a friend. We are able to put on a good fight because you taught us well. Our weapons are words such as these, the law, and justice.
We ask that you learn to respect us.
Above all, if I may offer a piece of advice, never disrespect the most cherished part of your own history.
