There are many Turks who genuinely feel European, albeit whether they
understand European values is another matter (take for example their
outrageous conviction that Cyprus is Turkish which is contrary to every
legal, historical and ethical argument). However, "Turkey" does not
belong in Europe. And yes, Christianity has a lot to do with it. The
values that permeate Europe are inspired by / based upon Christianity
whereas "Turkey" is mainly influenced by Islam which is similar to
Christianity only in so far that they both revere a supreme being. Islam
however is a political proposition more than anything else, and the
values it projects are completely different than Christianity's.
Starting with the freedom to be religious or not. Christianity advises.
Islam dictates. Therefore "Turkey" is not & cannot be European. Le
Pen is right. The sooner Turks realize it, the better off they will be.
