The Heart of the Matter is Properly Defining Islam

Why are the "experts" not able to highlight a simple truth? That religion tells an individual how to behave,

whereas political ideology tells societies how they should be structured. And that Islam claims to be both. If Islam cannot be disassociated from its political aspect, then it cannot be innocently grouped together with other religions whose purpose is the salvation of the soul. Islam, the ideology, should be treated as any other political ideology, one with extreme tendencies, one that condones terrorism as a means to an end.

Crime Against Humanity

It is not so much the illegal occupation of Cyprus that should not be forgotten & condemned, but the ongoing illegal colonization & cultural destruction instead. Eradicating from illegally occupied northern Cyprus one of the oldest and most cherished cultures and pillar civilization in a mere four decades, a land that has documented historical non-stop Christian and/or Hellenic presence spanning almost four millenniums is certainly a crime against humanity. In a sense an equal a crime to a genocide, be it the Holocaust or the Armenian genocide (which we commemorated yesterday) or the hideous cultural suppression against the Kurdish people over the last century in all four corners of the middle east.

In the Interest of Peace

90% of illegally occupied northern Cyprus's indigenous population, circa 200.000 people, was forcibly expelled in 1974. Many want Cyprus to negotiate based on such "reality on the ground".

But if regional peace is the ultimate goal, as every player in the conflict claims, then perhaps a new, much less dramatic reality, should be envisioned and implemented:

A single mention in the Turkish press in decades. That's news in itself!

Cyprus is reportedly debating granting the rights to block 8 to Israeli interests in exchange for Israel's support for the construction of an LNG plant in Vassiliko. In the mean time, the Turkish crimes in illegally occupied and illegally colonized northern Cyprus continue unabated, with its legal population still waiting after almost 40 years for its return to their homes and properties.

No Overlap

There is no overlap between the maximum of possible Turkish concessions and the minimum of acceptable Kurdish demands.

If an agreement comes about, it will unavoidably be short lived, regardless how much foreign powers may wish it as a precondition to their regional designs. The conservative right from either side will not let it be implemented, with the Turkish right being the least patient and most threatened and therefore the one expected to act first, also implicating the Kurdish right via propaganda or incitement or both, in traditional deep state ways.

It's Only Fair

Turks demand Kurds' education to be in Turkish. I for that of Turkish Cypriots in Greek.

Turks demand political equality between the Turkish Cypriot minority and the Greek Cypriots. I for such between Kurds and Turks of "Turkey".

Turks demand a say in Cypriot affairs. I for an EU one in Turkish affairs.

One for the Kurd, one for the Turkish Cypriot!

Nicos Anastassiades, President of Cyprus, must inform his Turkish counterpart, either directly or indirectly

via a public statement preferably in front of a European audience, that Cyprus is following closely his efforts to address his 25% minority community's demands. He should also suggest that the Cypriot experience can offer vast quantities of food for thought.

Reasoning with Turks

The more Turks envision an ethnically divided Cyprus, a historical absurdity, the more we should impress

upon them that an ethnically divided Ankara, an ethnically divided Constantinople (Istanbul) and an ethnically divided Smyrna (Izmir) must also be envisioned. Should they catch our drift, and instead throw their support behind a united Cyprus, then Turks must understand that political equality between Cypriots (Greeks) and the Turkish Cypriot minority must be no different than that between Turks and Kurds in "Turkey". That way Turks' understanding of political equality may become reasonable, as per our western sense of truth and logic.
