Cyprus is more Greek than Turkey is Turkish

Cyprus is more Greek than Turkey is Turkish. Way more. For far far longer! Protecting Cyprus's demographic integrity must be foremost on all our minds.

Turkey & the rights of Turkey's Kurds vs. the rights of Turkish Cypriots

Organizing a "Turkey & the rights of Turkey's Kurds vs. the rights of Turkish Cypriots" conference, under EU auspices, is a fantastic idea in order to raise awareness about Turkey's double standards in relation to the rights of large ethnic minorities within unitary states!

Make it so they cannot afford to ignore you

Dilana Kurdi April 6 [The Kurdish message is] very clear but I don't know why people don't understand!

Kyriacos Kyriakides I am sure they do understand. But doing something about it is very complex. It involves 4 countries, all members of the UN, none of which is willing to part with its current powers/authority. From where I stand, I see a lengthy process ahead, during which Kurds must do their utmost to cultivate, and rebuild where needed, their identity. The borders will come as history unfolds, in some places faster than others, and God forbid if Kurds are NOT already a determined united nation when history knocks on the respective doors.

Why does Cyprus have a 'Cyprus problem'?

Dear Minister,

Why does Cyprus have a 'Cyprus problem'?

I understand it may be a Cyprus problem from the UK's or Turkey's perspective, or even the UN's. But why do we Cypriots accept the humiliation that Cyprus has a Cyprus problem? What is so problematic about us that we need to advertise to the world as such? Where is our national pride?

The Solution

The solution in Cyprus is a unitary state, 1960 without its apartheid and foreign intervention aspects. The 1963 ideas would have been a solid step in the right direction, albeit timed wrongly. There has never really been a good time for common sense in Cyprus due to Turkish/British agendas. Only now have the prerequisites appeared and the conditions matured.

Demographic integrity and bullying

In a letter (22 March 2012) to US Secretary Of State Hillary Clinton, ranking member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Howard L. Berman, urges a “thoroughgoing re-assessment” of the US policy on Cyprus, taking into account Turkey’s military threats ["Turkey's threats constitute bullying and are way out of line"] against Cyprus and its “colonialist transfer of population from the Turkish mainland.”

Language reveals Turkish hypocrisy

Ethnic Turks think it is inconceivable for Kurds in Turkey not to speak Turkish. Would they agree then it is only fair for the Turkish Cypriot minority to have to learn Greek? Because if Turkey should speak Turkish only, then Cyprus must speak only Greek. After all, Cyprus is both historically and as a matter of fact more Greek than Turkey ever was Turkish.

Turkey's Kurds & Cyprus' tCypriots

As either unitary state or federation solutions are discussed as replacements to Cyprus' 1960 and Turkey's 1923 unworkable constitutions, should we abide by "if a right is a right too many for Turkey's Kurdish community (circa 23% of population) then that right is a right too many for Cyprus' tCypriot community too (circa 15%), and vice versa." Is the adoption of this fair logic the catalyst to securing just solutions for both UN countries.
