Turkish Cypriot hypocrisy or timidness?

I have a question of judgement, of principle, to ask members of the Turkish Cypriot ethnic minority community of Cyprus. Please don't give me the "It's none of my business" or "I've never been to Turkey" talk. When asked about nuclear proliferation we don't refuse to comment because we've never been to Hiroshima. And Turkey is your savior, is she not? My question is:

Do you or not support that Kurds should have the same rights in Turkey as you want to enjoy in Cyprus? Yes or No?

Note that you both constitute circa 20% of the respective populations.

What If Kurds Were Turkish Cypriots?

Fully aware that the ultimate Kurdish national goal is for an independent Kurdistan with all its components from Iraq, Syria, Turkey and Iran, I nevertheless must tell you that for the Kurds of N. Kurdistan (Turkey) today, the most crucial question to ask is: “What if Kurds were Turkish Cypriots?”. The answer, albeit offensive to Turkey’s Kurds because it unveils Turkey's evil double talk and hypocritical double action, may be the catalyst for effectively raising international awareness and effecting positive change.

It is unheard of!

The essence of the Cyprus problem, until today, is spoken by President Makarios at 3:10 of this video: "It is unheard of! 18% of a country's population claiming the right to manipulate the fate of the other 82%. In other countries, minorities struggle for equal rights. The Turkish minority in Cyprus is trying, by force of arms, to have not only equal rights but to dictate the destiny of the whole island."

Who are the Cyprus hardliners?

Hardliners are those who support the bogus BBF (bi-zonal, bi-communal federation) basis that aims to formalize the division of an illegal war and an unwise self-segregation policy. Those who oppose BBF, and support freedom and justice instead, oppose any lines, BBF, green or otherwise. No divisive hard lines ever existed in Cyprus in its almost 3.500 Greek and almost 2.000 Christian uninterrupted, recorded history. So, let's think again before we label the anti-BBF camp as HARD-LINERS. If anything, they are NO LINERS!

Imagine 1960 for Turkey’s Kurds

1960 was the year the Cyprus Republic was formed. How can it possibly relate to the plight of Kurds in Turkey?

Turkish Cypriots (herein TCs) never, in the over 3.200 uninterrupted documented Greek history of Cyprus, constituted more than 18% of Cyprus’s population. In fact, Turks first set foot on Cyprus in 1571.

Has***tir!

CyprusNewsReport.com Wed, 07/03/2012 - 14:13 — Editors - In the interests of press solidarity, this publication supports Afrika newspaper's statement against Egemen Bagis' provocative 'annexation' comments. The outspoken editor of Afrika newspaper Sener Levent has told Turkey's EU affairs minister Egemen Bagis exactly what he thinks about the idea of Turkey annexing north Cyprus with the front page title 'Has*tir', which basically translates into 'go screw yourself' (and that is putting it politely).

Q, W and X!

The letters 'Q', 'W' and 'X' exist in Kurdish but not Turkish. Kurdish is the native language of 25% of Turkey's population. The Parliament’s website will be in seven different languages including Russian and Chinese, but not Kurdish. Just imagine being a Kurd of Turkey!

Who are these Turks to wish to preach Cypriots on democracy, freedom and minority community rights? How dare they assume the moral high ground? Don't they realize they make fools of themselves?

Turks desperately need an exit strategy!

I highly recommend reading the wise words of President Papoulias of Greece in their entirety, but I wish to highlight the most essential part of his statement: “the current situation with drilling in Cyprus is changing the strategic data in the region. Indications point to the fact that Cyprus will quickly become a potential factor of energy supply in Europe. This is understood by Europeans. And I believe that they alone realize that ... [new strategic data] will make Europe more interested in order for them to enforce the law in the Republic of Cyprus”.

One way ticket back home!

Turks' aim indeed was annexation from day one. However, the timing for them to publicly announce it was forced. They would have liked more time to complete their designs. They have painted themselves in a corner. EU entry and energy finds changed everything. I have been saying for over a year now:  Turkish Cypriots have one option alone: forget their 1960 apartheid rights and confidently negotiate their reintegration back to Cyprus (Rep. of) on a 'one person one vote basis'. They constitute a mere 10-12% minority. Regardless what tCypriots choose to do, Cyprus is getting stronger by the day & Turkey's military superiority is of no consequence. The EU will never allow anyone to question her (Cyprus's) energy deposits and alternative energy route. It was reported in the Greek press that even Greece benefited from the Cyprus - Israel - Greece alliance in the making in her recent bailout negotiations. It would be naive to think that Cyprus will not be asking in return from the EU to apply serious pressure on Turkey to allow a fair settlement of the Cyprus dispute. Unfortunately for Turkey she did not have enough time to complete her Cyprus character alteration project! Troops and settlers will soon be buying a one way ticket back home!

Erdogan's Kurdish Challenge

"By all standards the Kurds deserved their own nation: They have had their own territory, language, ethnic identity, customs and history for over a thousand years. They had every reason to be proud of themselves. They had produced great scholars, like the mystic Said Nursi, and great rulers like the legendary Saladin who was a model for piety, compassion and courage. They even had a name for their region: Kurdistan."  Akbar Ahmed 3/3/2012 Huffington Post

What a weasel!

If indeed you had any honor you would have offered Kurds long ago not less rights than those you deem appropriate for the well being and security of the Turkish Cypriot minority of neighboring Cyprus.

Prime Minister, you may look tough, you may talk tough, you may have expensive toys, but the reality both of us know is that you are no better than a weasel!

A Cypriot tells it like it's always been!

A quick Cyprus history lesson by Dr Ihsan Ali (Google 'Dr Ihsan Ali', he was one of the original Turkish Cypriot leaders in the 1950s): Letter to Turkish Prime Minister, Suad Hayri Urguplu, 24/10/1965

Hon. Mr. Premier, In one of your recent statements you said that if the present state of affairs in Cyprus continues, the events in Istanbul on 6th and 7th September, 1955, will be repeated.

What do you mean by saying "the present state of affairs" in Cyprus?

Turkey's Kurds & Cyprus' tCypriots

As either unitary state or federation solutions are discussed as replacements to Cyprus' 1960 and Turkey's 1923 unworkable constitutions, should we abide by "if a right is a right too many for Turkey's Kurdish community (circa 23% of population) then that right is a right too many for Cyprus' tCypriot community too (circa 15%), and vice versa." Is the adoption of this fair logic the catalyst to securing just solutions for both UN countries.
